Join Lazaro Vega of Blue Lake Radio for a music-filled journey back in time as he discusses some of Idlewild’s great performers. Using music clips and conversation, visitors will learn about the talents of Lilian Armstrong, Lionel Hampton, and others who graced the stages of Idlewild’s clubs and juke-joints.
Joining Blue Lake Public Radio’s staff in the spring of 1983, Lazaro Vega has provided listeners with four decades of exceptional Jazz programming, interviews, reviews, and unwavering advocacy of this uniquely American art form. As Jazz Director at BLPR, he is encyclopedic in his knowledge of the medium and well known in the West Michigan arts community and national Jazz community. Lazaro brings a unique perspective to his listeners through his musings, storytelling, and interpretations, helping to foster an appreciation of Jazz among both novices and loyalists alike.
