Unrecognized Trailblazers: A Sample of Holland’s Female Entrepreneurs from the Anishinaabek to the Present

Join Steve VanderVeen, a local journalist, author, and professor, for Unrecognized Trailblazers: A Sample of Holland’s Female Entrepreneurs from the Anishinaabek to the Present, an inspiring evening in honor of Women’s History Month. What we know about Holland’s female entrepreneurs we know only in part, but what we know helps tell our story. Beginning with the Anishinaabek, Steve’s talk will highlight the stories of some of Holland’s mostly unrecognized female trailblazers.

Steve VanderVeenSteve VanderVeen enjoys discovering and developing entrepreneurial leaders. A life-long resident of West Michigan, he attended Zeeland and Holland Christian Schools, Calvin University (BA, English), Western Michigan University (MBA, Marketing), and the University of Illinois at Chicago (Ph.D., Marketing). For the last 35 years he has served as a business professor, first at Calvin, then Hope, and now Cornerstone (with an adjunct role at Calvin). His favorite course to teach is “the start-up.”

From 2004-2008 he wrote a bi-weekly column for the Holland Sentinel called the “Business Next Door.”  From July 2021 through December 2024, he wrote a weekly column on Holland’s historical entrepreneurs. In the future he hopes to keep teaching and writing and contributing to the start-up community.
