Fair Housing Five and the Haunted House

On Thursday, March 18th at 6 pm EST, the Holland Museum presents a reading and family discussion of “The Fair Housing Five and the Haunted House.”  The children’s book and discussion will be read in English by Bree Miranda (Fair Housing Center of West Michigan), and in Spanish by Brisa Martinez-Contreras, (Holland High School senior).

The Fair Housing Center of West Michigan will mail a complimentary copy of the book (available in English or Spanish) and a coloring activity to those who register by March 10th. If registering after March 10th, books may be picked up at the Museum on Friday March 12, Saturday March 13 or Monday March 15 between 10-5pm while supplies last.

“The Fair Housing Five & The Haunted House:” Samaria and her friends like everything about their clubhouse except the haunted house across the street. But when Samaria and her mother need to find a place to live, they realize they are dealing with a much bigger problem than ghosts or monsters. “The Fair Housing Five & the Haunted House” is an illustrated children’s book that tells the story of five children who take action in response to a landlord who is discriminating in their neighborhood.

This family accessible book was developed by the Louisiana Fair Housing Action Center (formerly the Greater New Orleans Fair Housing Action Center) and New Orleans educators, parents, and students.
