Nelis’ Dutch Village: Legacy of success over 100 years and counting
From Beverwyk, Netherlands in 1910 to Missouri, to Chicago, and finally to Holland, the Nelis family began as vegetable and daffodil farmers. Tulips grew the family business from flowers to souvenirs with the Tulip Time Festival’s popularity. The present location of Nelis’ Dutch Village was purchased in 1952 and began as a retail outlet for bulbs and souvenirs. Growing the business each off-season is a tradition the Nelis’ continue today. With over 30 structures representing different provinces in the Netherlands, guests are treated to klompen dancers, street organs, a carousel, and heirloom quality gifts. Currently operated by the fourth generation of Nelis’ family members, Nelis’ Dutch Village continues to preserve the history and culture of the Netherlands.
