Holland Museum Tales from the Archives, Describing Nature in the 17th Century Dutch Art, Part 1, Tulips and Time

Using highlights from the Holland Museum’s outstanding Dutch painting collection, Dr. Henry Luttikhuizen will discuss some of the important themes of 17th-century Dutch art. Part 1, Tulips and Time, discusses the form and function of flower paintings in Netherlandish culture. Special attention will be given to the nexus between cut flowers and temporality.

About the Presenter

Dr. Henry Luttikhuizen

Author, curator, and art historian Dr. Henry Luttikhuizen has taught at Kendall College of Art and Design, Calvin College, and is currently a Scholar in Residence at Grand Valley State University and is teaching a course at Hope College Fall 2022. He received his BA in Art History and Political Science from Calvin College, a Masters in Philosophical Aesthetics from The Institute for Christian Studies, and an MA and PhD in in Art History from the University of Virginia. He has published numerous books and articles and is currently working on projects focused on Late Medieval and Early Netherlandish art.
