What to Expect

Participants will begin the day at the Felt Estate with refreshments and a guided tour highlighting the legacy of industrialist Dorr Felt and his wife, Agnes. Guests will then travel by bus to Zeeland’s Dekker Huis Museum to learn about the Dekker family and their role in the growth of their community. Following a catered lunch, the tour continues to the Cappon House, the 1874 Italianate home of Dutch immigrant and Holland’s first mayor, Isaac Cappon. The day concludes with a closing cocktail before returning to the Felt Estate.Throughout the day, museum staff will share additional stories and historical context, creating deeper connections between these individual sites and the broader regional narrative.

Zeeland Historical Society operates the Dekker Huis Museum, which showcases the history of Zeeland and its surrounding communities. The museum is housed in the historic 1876 Dekker family home, which includes gallery spaces, a barn, and an interurban station. Visitors will enjoy touring the historic home, the recreated 1920s bank and grocery store, the Main Street display, and more. With a collection of over 20,000 artifacts, there is so much to explore! The museum features various rotating exhibits, offering something new each year.
The historic Felt Estate boasts a lavish 12,000+ square foot mansion with 25 rooms, three floors, and a one-of-a-kind ballroom. Nestled on Shore Acres Farm, it invites visitors to step back in time and explore its fascinating history and picturesque beauty. The Felt Estate and Shore Acres remain an integral part of the West Michigan landscape—both aesthetically and economically—providing an educational and beautiful destination for residents and visitors alike.
