About the Holland Museum Internship Program

Hands-On, Comprehensive Learning

Each Summer, the Holland Museum offers hands-on, comprehensive internship opportunities to high school, college, and graduate students interested in education, history, art/art history, collections, fundraising, communications, and other aspects of non-profit museum work. All internships are 10 weeks, 20 hours/week and each intern will receive $1,000 stipend upon successful completion of the internship requirements. View summer internship opportunities.

Summer Internship Council

Interns work closely with the Museum staff to complete various projects aligned with their areas of interest. In addition, they collectively form the "Summer Internship Council" to research, design, curate, and install a small exhibition featuring the Museum's collection. On the exhibit opening day, each intern presents their part of the collective project.

2023 Interns, Wyatt Wilcox and Maddalena Frissora, carefully handle artifacts as they prep the exhibition, "Cabinets of Curiosities: Origins of the Modern Museum."

It discusses the evolution of the Museum from small personal collections to the grandeur that is the Modern Museum.

What past summer interns have to say...

“You allowed me to apply my skills to learn and experience museum and non-profit work…I knew that I could do more...because you gave me that chance back in Michigan. You (the museum staff) helped me begin my career and I am very thankful for everything.”

“I was very well guided by all of the staff here and felt very much at home. I never felt uncomfortable, even when I was assigned challenging/new tasks.”

“I had a great time working with my fellow interns and sharing personal interests and hobbies, and stories. It is inspiring to hear different stories and backgrounds and it helped me feel supported and encouraged in my goals and career decisions.”
