Celebrate Veterans Day at the Holland Armory

October 9, 2019

Honor our veterans and active duty service members on Monday, November 11 in celebration of Veterans Day with free admission from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Holland Armory.

Visitors can explore an exhibit on the history of the Armory building, Company D and Col. Henry A. Geerds. Docents will be available to answer questions.

“We are excited to share this treasure with the community on such an important, historical day,” says executive director, Ricki Levine.

The Holland Armory of the Holland Museum was the home of Holland’s National Guard from 1925 to 1998 but it became much more than a place for the Guard to meet. The Armory held large community events like high school dances, college basketball games, flower shows and trade shows. It also served the American Legion and Women’s Auxiliary Corps for many decades.

Upon serving in WWI, Col. Geerds returned to Holland and organized the National Guard unit and secured funding to build the Armory as a home for the unit.

The Armory is owned and operated by the Holland Museum. The Armory is located at 16 W. 9th Street in downtown Holland.
