The Bathroom
When the house was constructed, the kitchen area included this small room called a “bathroom,” literally, a room for taking a bath. On the original house plans, a bathtub and corner washstand are indicated. The copper-lined tub and washstand are not original but are like what was once here.
Over the bathtub hangs a mirror which was included in the 1902 inventory as being in the bathroom. The wicker potty chair was used by the children of the second family after the 1890s.
A high tank toilet was installed in the early 1900s. Prior to that, the Cappons used an outhouse which is thought to have been located at the northeast corner of where the barn sits now.
