Lavina's Bedroom

Although this bedroom was used by several of the family’s daughters and was Lavina’s most of her life, it was most probably occupied by Ida and Lavina Cappon (age 9 and age 6) in 1900. It is thought that the dresser, bed, and washstand were made by the Holland Furniture Company around 1900, and replace the original bedroom set for this room which was not found among the Cappon belongings. Original wallpaper, ingrain carpet and curtains have been reproduced. Cappon pieces in this room are the pictures on the walls, the chairs, and the items on the dresser.

The door to this bedroom contains glass panels which let window light into the otherwise dark back hallway. The winding stairway opposite the bedroom door leads to the main attic which is a large storage space with no windows. There are stories of the Cappon children playing in the attic on rainy or cold days.
