The Spare Bedroom

At the time of Isaac Cappon’s death in 1902, this room was used as a guest bedroom. Earlier it was a children’s bedroom.

The cherry Eastlake bedroom set, made by Nelson, Matter & Co. around 1882, was called the Langtry Cheval Suit, after actress Lilly Langtry. According to family information, the room was used as a sewing room by Jacoba Cappon. The lap sewing board and New Home sewing machine belonged to Jacoba along with the other sewing equipment.

On the wall are prints of Holland’s founder, Rev. Albertus Van Raalte; leaders of the protestant reformation; and a photograph of a replica settlers cabin built in 1897 for Holland’s Semi Centennial celebration (Isaac can be seen in the photo).
