Latin Americans United For Progress (LAUP) empowers Latinos to participate in creating a better community for all through advocacy, celebration & education. Some programs and resources provided by this organization include:

  • ESL Program (English Second Language)- LAUP partners with Zeeland/Holland Adult Education to offer six levels of English instruction with daytime and evening course options. Occasional specialized courses train students in vocabulary for specific forms of work.
  • GED Program- LAUP offers a GED exam preparation program in Spanish and partners with Zeeland/Holland Adult Education to offer an exam preparation program in English.
  • Digital Literacy/Computer Training- These classes provide English and Spanish speakers who already possess basic computer literacy the opportunity to expand their knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google software.
  • Citizenship Program- This ten-week program prepares participants to apply for citizenship and pass the citizenship exam. The course also includes a Citizenship Application Workshop with an attorney.

The Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance works to dismantle barriers to ensure people of all ethnic backgrounds have equal access and opportunity to participate fully in the life of their community. Some programs and resources provided by this organization include:

  • The Summit on Race and Inclusion- a day-long conference held each spring in West Michigan where participants learn how racial biases affect communities economically and socially and learn tools to make a positive difference in their community.

The Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony is dedicated to promoting unity, justice, equal opportunity, ethnic awareness, cross-cultural understanding, and appreciation for diversity. Some programs and resources provided by this organization include:

  • Monthly public meetings to talk about local and national justice and diversity issues, listen to speakers from different ethnic groups, and take part in "walk in my shoes" cross-cultural exercises.
  • Partnerships with area businesses, clubs, and religious organizations where resources of ideas, speakers, materials, and diversity training are provided by ACEH.

The Hispanic Center of Western Michigan is a non-profit organization serving the needs of the Latino and broader community. They strive to provide an avenue for education and openness to promote discussion of the distinctions and values of different nationalities and cultures. Some programs and resources provided by this organization include:

  • Assisting clients with navigating processes and systems to acquire the support needed to become self-sufficient, independent, active members of the community. This is accomplished by helping client’s breakdown barriers that keep them from having access to community resources and basic needs such as health, food, transportation, and shelter.

Some programs and resources provided by this organization include:

  • Transformando West Michigan- a program that focuses on the advancement of local Hispanic businesses by provide Hispanic business owners with the tools and knowledge in different business fields, such as food safety, financial literacy, human resources, and several other topics.
